HomeSight, a home healthcare services provider, is reimagining healthcare in the home to help aging people with chronic conditions maintain independence for longer. Using a chameleon-like approach, HomeSight’s monitoring system adapts a network of sensors and communications systems to the natural settings and behavior of people managing chronic conditions.

UEGroup partnered with HomeSight to design a digital ecosystem with a nearly invisible experience, passively collecting data for caregivers and communicating with patients where they interact most, on their TVs. Our team created easy-to-use digital interfaces that connect patients, their caregivers, loved ones and health professionals to monitor and manage health conveniently.

The Challenge

Designing for people 65+ with advanced chronic conditions requires simplicity and ergonomics, but also a rich enough feature set that patients find it valuable and not insulting to their capability level. It’s also critical to recognize the delicate caretaker and patient relationship. Our role was to create a solution that fits neatly in both the loved ones and caretaker’s lives while providing confidence through care monitoring without requiring anyone to change their current behaviors.

How we did it

HomeSight took what it already knew about its product demographic and made a differentiating hardware solution, but the hardware alone wasn’t enough to be successful. UEGroup sought to create a streamlined web and TV experience making at-home care technology easier for all parties and bringing HomeSight further into the telehealth realm as a disruptor. With so much capability and data access through sensor monitoring, the goal was to identify how and where that data could add insight into healthcare, blending into their lives without feeling like another burdensome thing to track.

“For how advanced the technology is in this little box, we haven’t even scraped the surface of what it can do.”

Marco Schiano, Business Development

How We Did It

Curvy line

UEGroup conducted foundational research and usability testing with the target 65+ audience to understand what they enjoyed and disliked about the current system and the new designs. We found that users wanted an easier, more streamlined way to help schedule their loved ones' appointments, communicate with them from afar, and stay in close touch with caregivers in one organized hub.

Through an interactive design process, our team leveraged these insights to craft a consistent product experience across all touchpoints, from digital design to the physical design of the remote. Considering the unique conditions of this user group, UEGroup wanted to adjust designs to consider age-related degeneration of the eyes and motor muscles.

How to image

UEGroup’s design work reimagined the web, mobile and TV interfaces and touched:

  • Patient Interface: Homescreen and advanced calling features that allow patients to connect with caregivers, easy sharing of documents and medical records via home interfaces, simple call scheduling between patients, friends, cargivers and loved ones, and presence and activity sensing
  • Patient Onboarding and Management: Streamlined first-time hub installation that makes it easy for the whole family, and easily accessible and manageable contact book
  • Patients and Friends Portal: Shared events, calls and messages, check-in reminders for loved ones, and recommend activities or content
  • Medical Compliance: To-do notifications, patient activity sensing, as well as a health dashboard overview
The
Outcomes

UEGroup was able to create an ecosystem where those living with chronic conditions and their loved ones could easily coordinate, communicate, and manage events and reminders. With a nearly invisible experience, HomeSight’s sensors passively collect data for caregivers and loved ones and surface.

Through usability testing and iterative design rounds in partnership with the HomeSight team, we created an intuitive, simple, and flexible system that delivers functionality tailored to the unique needs of managing the declining health of the user or the user’s loved ones. UEGroup created an interface for caregivers and loved ones promotes collaboration by unifying schedules and sending automated alerts when sensors indicate a patient may need attention. This works within the portal and integrates with users' favorite calendars and messaging systems, so no one needs to change their current behaviors to stay informed.

The HomeSight solution is now available on the market.
